7 8 9

We've been playing the Barenaked Ladies song "7 8 9" for Maia so now she finishes a verse for us. We sing " 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 10, what about 9?" and she sings "7 8 9". (7 has eaten 9, that's the story line of the song). And she's still leaving out 5. Just doesn't like that number apparently.

This weekend Maia started singing the Birthday song. She wouldn't tell me Happy Birthday on my birthday but now she's singing happy birthday to everyone she can think of.

She's memorized much of the book Each Peach Pear Plum so will finish each line. She also does this with the Boynton Going to Bed book.

And the most exciting bit of news...Maia pooped in a PUBLIC restroom! (in the potty, not on the floor - Todd has requested this clarification). This was actually the first time she'd ever been taken to the potty in a public bathroom. Frankly, it's been a bit frightening for me what with all the grossness associated with public bathrooms and not wanting her to touch anything. But she'd been constipated and had been trying to get some difficult poop out and was obviously working on it again while we were shopping at Rainbow on Sunday so Todd took her to the bathroom and the timing was apparently perfect and she was ready to go right then and she did it. Also impressive that the first public pottying experience was with Todd. So now we have her all excited about pooping in the Rainbow potty. Rainbow potties. Pooping rainbows. Good stuff.

Until today, we'd had this fabulous week plus of naps that lasted at least 1:50 and a few that were almost 2.5 hours. This was really exciting for me since she's never been a great napper. For a while now she's been doing about 1.5 which had come a long way from the 45 minutes she did for so freaking long. You can't get anything done in 45 minutes. So, I've been seriously excited about her finally taking long naps like so many other kids (ok, I also know plenty that don't take long naps) and then today she only slept for 50 minutes. I'm hopeful that it was only because she needed to poop, which she had done when I found her awake and playing in her room. And then we got to spend the rest of the day with a really grumpy and irrational toddler. Yep, not much different from usual but a bit more extreme.

Can't recall if I already posted that she suddenly started hating baths. Was constantly saying she needed to go potty so she could get out and screamed hysterically during the washing process. So we decided to re-acclimate her to the fun of bathing by telling her she could just play in the tub, by herself, with no washing. She didn't believe us at first but we convinced her to try it out and added some new toys which made it more exciting. Then we slowly added a bit more washing to each bath. And then tonight she was angry when she had to get out. And she apparently has much more fun in the bath without one of us bathing with her. I'm really happy that she's happy to take a bath again but kind of sad that she's such a big girl now that she doesn't need or want us in there with her.

She learned how to gallop this weekend and has been winding down (or up?) before bed the past few nights by running/galloping/walking backwards/chasing daddy around the circuit (bedroom/living room/hallway). With much hysterical laughter. And preferably done "nake nake".
