Speaking! Well, sort of...

For quite some time now, Maia has been saying "yeah" and "hey" and often when it seems appropriate. This morning we were saying hi to the cats, as we do many times a day. First we said "hi Basil" and she immediately said "hi Baabaa" twice. Then we said "hi Mowzle" and she said "hi Maa". Later it kept sounding like she was actually saying "Daddy" a bunch. And she is apparently teaching herself the alphabet in French! She said "a, b" in French. We've been trying hard to get her to wave since she "failed" (as Jeff likes to point out) that aspect of her 9/10 month vet visit this past week. She seemed to actually be doing it finally tonight. Diana pointed out that this hand slapping thing she does appears to be her version of clapping and, honestly, it's much cuter! We don't really care whether or not she can clap and wave yet, it'll come when she's ready. Besides, she does an EXCELLENT job of deliberately pointing at things right now. The first time she pointed at something was a few weeks ago when I took her to the zoo and she pointed at the Meerkats which, in my opinion, was an excellent choice of the first thing to point at because they are so ridiculously cute.

the hand slapping is definitely her way of "clapping" -- she was smiling and responding with the slaps when i clapped. you should try to get it on film because it's super cute.
