We decided to play on the beach in Capitola on the way home because it was a lot warmer up there than in Monterey. We chose the beach in the middle of the touristy bit since it was close to food so not the most picturesque and rather crowded but the kids didn't care and were quite happy. As demonstrated previously, Maia LOVES the beach and ocean. Kept running toward the water and seemed unaffected by the cold temperature.
